The market for organic products in Belgium is worth 300 million Euros and also thanks to about 2800 products, an increase of 25 % was registered over the last year, Greenplanet reports. The growth, according to the analysis of Gfk who led the study, is due to a number of factors, including rising inflation and a higher frequency in purchasing.
In Belgium, organics remain immune to the crisis, despite a 33 % premium on conventional products. They have a share of close to 2 % of sales in the food industry. Almost 50 % of products are sold in large supermarkets, the other items are sold through small and specialized distribution channels. Regarding organic farm land, according to data from FiBL, despite the ambition to achieve a share of 10 % of the total land, still only 2.4 % of the total land is organic.
